Senior Employment Counsel, EMEA: Become the Newest Member of the VF Family

As Senior Employment Counsel, EMEA you are the regional leader for employment law and will provide support and expert legal advice on all aspects of employment law and human resources practice areas, across the region. The Senior Employment Counsel will be part of the Global Law Department and report directly to the Vice President and General Counsel, Global Labor & Employment. This role will be the go-to person for the HR department to offer insight into, and advice about, legal matters relating to local law across the regions. This position would also provide regionally tailored legal advice related to implementation of the company’s global HR initiatives, as well as its operational strategic initiatives.

How You Will Make a Difference:  

Provide expert knowledge and analyze and convey complex information to lead the management of employment law and HR risks across multiple entities within the EMEA region; Act as the main contact for regional HR Business Partners and manage external counsel (including accountability for all external legal costs) in the region; Monitor complex employment law-related developments for translation into relevant policies and solutions that will mitigate risks and significantly impact the organization’s immediate and longer-term business objectives Develop and provide training on legal matters to HR and managers, discuss policies to be implemented, and discuss strategy on works council related topics; Contribute legal expertise to a wide range of novel and complex HR activities such as disciplinary actions, organisational changes, employment contract issues and reviews, dismissals, negotiated exits and settlement agreements; Demonstrate conceptual thinking to develop, implement and review employment policies and procedures and advise on Employee Representation/Works Council consultations; Provide regular updates and discuss important legal changes within the region to the Vice President and General Counsel, Global Labor and Employment as well as the General Counsel, EMEA and local leadership team; and Perform other tasks/projects as directed by the Vice President and General Counsel, Global Labor and Employment as well as the General Counsel, EMEA.

Skills for Success:

Years of Related Professional Experience: 10+

Educational/ Position Requirements: 

  • Legal experience in an in-house environment particularly in working with or providing advice in relation to multi-jurisdictional projects
  • Overall broad legal knowledge of labour/employment law in jurisdictions throughout the EMEA region, in particular the United Kingdom, France and Germany.
  • Proactive with the ability to deliver quality work under pressure with minimal supervision
  • Experience providing practical, commercially-focused advice to clients
  • In-depth knowledge of handling and advising on Employee Representative issues;
  • Strong analytical and strategic skills with the ability to drive issues to a quick resolution that factors in many non-legal variables, such as brand-risk, communications, government relations, finance and other business units
  • Ability to manage a diverse and complex workload
  • Special Physical and/or Mental Requirements:

  • Travel by air and overnight, as required 20% amount of time.
