Fixed Term (12 Months) 1.0 FTE Postgraduate Fellow
Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine

Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in the Western Sydney Local Health District. The position will be primarily located at Westmead Hospitalwithin the Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine.

Successful applicants will provide both inpatient and outpatient services at Westmead Hospital in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine, and will be expected to participate in the on-call consultant roster. The successful applicant will undertake and supervise clinical activity in the Respiratory Comprehensive Care Centre. In addition, the successful applicant will supervise the activity and workloads for the inpatient RMO teams, and help to manage the overall level of inpatient clinical activity in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine. There is a possibility for further training in Sleep Medicine, Cystic Fibrosis or Interventional Bronchoscopy for suitable applicants.

Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within six months, may be considered. If successful, the applicant may not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until after the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed.

The position will be for a period of 12 months, commencing in the 2022 Clinical Year, from 7 February 2022 to 5 February 2023.

The position may be extended for a further 12 months subject to funding, clinical need, and satisfactory performance.

Appointees may be eligible for credentialing and privileging across all other facilities in the Western Sydney Local Health District.

Selection criteria

  • Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.
  • Sound clinical knowledge in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.
  • Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:
    a. High level interpersonal and communication skills
    b. Demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team
    c. Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice
    d. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision.
  • Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department.
  • Demonstrated clinical skills in flexible bronchoscopy and pleural procedures.
  • Demonstrated clinical skills in management of patients with acute and chronic Respiratory Failure.
  • Research and Teaching interests in areas aligned with the Departments interests (e.g. physician trainee education and supervision programs; sleep, respiratory failure, interventional bronchoscopy, COPD or cystic fibrosis).
  • Working with children check
